Staff Software Engineer – Mobile Android for Google Photos

About the role

Google Photos is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to lead the development of Android mobile experiences, including advanced video editing features. You will work on high‑impact projects that serve billions of users worldwide, collaborating with cross‑functional teams across client‑side, server‑side, and machine‑intelligence domains.

Key responsibilities

• Define technical direction and strategy together with engineering managers and technical leads.
• Design and build industry‑leading video editing capabilities for Android.
• Collaborate with global engineers to improve software components, architecture, and performance.
• Identify, triage, debug, and resolve issues in existing codebases.
• Mentor and guide project teams, balancing trade‑offs and prioritising engineering excellence.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
• 8+ years of software development experience.
• 5+ years of Android application development and product launch experience.
• 3+ years of experience in software design and architecture.
• Demonstrated technical leadership (3+ years leading teams or setting direction).
