About the role

Bankwest, supported by CBA, is looking for a Staff Software Engineer in its Safe and Resilient Lending Crew. The role combines architectural leadership across complex distributed systems with hands-on coding, mentoring engineers and raising engineering standards. The crew optimises key parts of the lending value chain (credit decisioning, valuations, LMI, pricing, capital/forecasting models, CCR) through high-scale, resilient distributed systems.

Key responsibilities

Provide architectural leadership across complex distributed systems, driving design decisions that improve resilience, scalability and performance
Mentor engineers across the chapter and uplift engineering standards
Own solutions across the full software lifecycle, from design through to production and continuous improvement
Align technology decisions with business priorities to deliver scalable, resilient platforms

Required profile

Proven experience designing and delivering scalable, resilient enterprise systems in high-volume, customer-facing environments
End-to-end leadership across architecture, technology and strategy, with openness to evolving towards .NET-based architectures
Experience with event-driven systems, microservices and Domain-Driven Design
Hands-on engineering mindset, mentoring others while driving code quality, performance and reliability

Required skills

Java (essential) and Spring Boot microservices
AWS: EC2, Lambda, ECS/Fargate, RDS, DynamoDB, CloudFormation, CDK
Kafka and RabbitMQ
DevSecOps: CI/CD, automated testing, security, observability
Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform, Ansible
Optional: SQL Server, PostgreSQL, NoSQL, TypeScript, React, Next.js, CloudWatch, Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry, ELK, JMeter, BlazeMeter
