Staff Software Engineer - Full Stack (React, Next.js, Node.js, .NET)

About the role

The Commonwealth Bank is hiring a Staff Software Engineer - Full Stack to join its Customer Service Network team within Assisted Technology. The team is reimagining how branch colleagues support customers, building capabilities such as intelligent concierge, agentic appointment booking, customer-intent capture, skills matching and smarter branch operations. The role sits in a ground-up transformation where AI, agentic capabilities and LLM-powered services are central to the engineering strategy.

Key responsibilities

• Shape the next generation of assisted technology by defining architecture and building modern services at scale
• Work across TypeScript, React, Next.js, APIs.NET and AI-enabled engineering, influencing architecture, engineering practices and technical direction
• Mentor engineers, raise design and engineering standards and balance hands-on technical work with architectural stewardship
• Turn ambiguous business and domain problems into clear technical options and architecture, making product-first trade-offs across teams

Required profile

• Deep systems thinking and end-to-end architecture experience across interconnected environments
• Full-stack engineering breadth, ideally TypeScript, React, Next.js and Node.js, with ability to support legacy technologies
• Experience delivering cloud-native, distributed systems and leading large-scale modernisation of legacy environments
• Strong integration engineering, especially across authentication, identity, biometrics, NFC or hardware-to-software integration
• Practical use of AI-powered and agentic tools across the software lifecycle
• Secure-by-design, resilient, observable engineering with operational ownership

• Databases: Oracle PL/SQL, MongoDB, AWS NoSQL services

• CI/CD and quality: GitHub Actions, unit/integration/E2E testing, Specmatic API contract testing
• Observability: Prometheus, Grafana, PagerDuty
