About the role
Google is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to lead Android development for Maps Navigation. You will work on critical developer infrastructure, AI‑powered tools, and help shape the technical strategy for the Geo team.
Key responsibilities
- Design, build, and maintain end‑to‑end test frameworks and core debugging tools for Android Maps products.
- Own the technical strategy for developer velocity, including scalable test infrastructure and automation frameworks.
- Participate in integrating AI‑powered solutions to improve validation, automation, and debugging.
- Facilitate alignment across cross‑functional teams on goals, outcomes, and timelines.
- Influence and coach a distributed team of engineers.
Required profile
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
- 8+ years of software development experience, including 5+ years in Android application development.
- 3+ years in a technical leadership role setting direction for project teams.
- Experience working in a complex, matrixed organization on cross‑functional projects.
Required skills
- Android development (Java/Kotlin).
- Building and maintaining test frameworks and debugging tools.
- AI and machine learning concepts applied to software development.
- Strong collaboration and problem‑solving mindset.
