Staff Front End Engineer - Mobile Platform

About the role

Canva is looking for a Staff Front End Engineer to lead the architecture of its Portable Platform, a production‑scale React codebase that runs on web, iOS and Android. You will shape the abstractions that let engineers write React once and have it work everywhere, enabling a seamless transition from browser‑only development to a unified React/React‑Native ecosystem.

Key responsibilities

• Design and ship the frontend architecture that abstracts away runtime differences between web and mobile.
• Lead the migration from a pure React Web codebase to a combined React Web + React Native platform.
• Own the web implementation of shared Portable Platform components that behave consistently across iOS, Android and browsers.
• Support the upskilling of 600+ frontend engineers through standards, documentation, design reviews and direct collaboration.
• Introduce Server‑Side Rendering (SSR) and React Server Components where appropriate.

Required profile

• Proven experience designing large‑scale frontend architectures.
• Strong track record delivering complex React applications.
• Ability to influence engineering practices across a large organization.
• Excellent communication skills for mentoring and documentation.
