Specialist Medical Practitioner – General Practitioner (Virtual Care)

About the role

The Department of Health Tasmania is seeking a Specialist Medical Practitioner – General Practitioner to join its state‑wide TeamCare@home service. In this role you will deliver virtual clinical consultations to patients receiving home‑based care, supporting them to manage acute and chronic conditions remotely.

Key responsibilities

• Provide specialised virtual care to patients enrolled in the TeamCare@home service, including triage, assessment and management of non‑urgent acute and chronic conditions.
• Deliver a full range of virtual clinical services such as patient management plans, clinical governance, guidance, advice and expert opinions.
• Support private general practices facing staffing challenges by offering both face‑to‑face and virtual consultations when needed.
• Supervise GP Registrars, International Medical Graduates and Junior Doctors in district hospitals and during short‑term deployments to high‑risk community settings.

Required profile

• Registered General Practitioner with current practising licence.
• Experience in delivering telehealth or virtual care services.
• Ability to provide clinical supervision and mentorship to junior medical staff.
• Willingness to work flexibly on an as‑required basis for up to twelve months.

Required skills

• Proficiency with telehealth/virtual care platforms.
• Strong clinical assessment and patient management capabilities.
• Knowledge of clinical governance and safety standards.
