Software Engineer

About the role

Leidos Australia is seeking a Software Engineer to join its Mission Software Solutions team in Melbourne or Canberra. The role is on‑site within a secure environment and involves delivering high‑quality software for Defence, Intelligence and other Government customers.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, integrate and deploy software solutions across the development lifecycle.
• Participate in agile story development, estimation and continuous integration automation.
• Implement SecDevOps practices for secure, reliable deployments.
• Develop web‑focused user interfaces and evolve user experience.
• Research, prototype and investigate new technologies and systems.
• Produce and maintain clear technical documentation.

Required profile

• Quality‑focused engineer with strong problem‑solving skills.
• Clear communicator who works constructively with multidisciplinary teams.
• Adaptable to shifting priorities and committed to customer goals.
• Australian citizen with an active TSPV clearance.

Required skills

• Agile software delivery and solid engineering principles.
• Testing practices, unit and integration test development.
• Web UI development (React, Angular) and backend technologies (.NET, Java).
• Integration using REST APIs, JSON, XML.
• Experience with open‑source tools such as NiFi, Kafka, Elastic (ELK) Stack, Solr.
• CI/CD tools and IaC (Ansible, GitLab, Git).
• Containerisation (Docker, Kubernetes) and Linux/Windows environments.
• Jira and Confluence for project tracking.
