Software Engineer, Foundry Systems

About the role

Airtree is hiring a Software Engineer to develop the software that runs lab and factory equipment, coordinates production, tracks materials and creates regulated manufacturing records. You will work closely with scientists and operators to turn real problems into reliable software solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Build and improve Python services, process‑control software, TypeScript/React interfaces, APIs and PostgreSQL data models.
• Connect software to physical equipment using protocols such as Modbus and OPC UA.
• Deploy, monitor and operate systems on AWS, including on‑call incident response.
• Use AI coding agents to generate code, then create tests, run simulations and conduct controlled trials on live equipment.
• Own production systems, ensuring data integrity, safe recovery and compliance with regulated, mission‑critical requirements.

Required profile

• 2‑4 years of professional software engineering experience.
• Bachelor’s degree in software engineering, computer science or a related field.
• Demonstrated high performance through academic results, professional work, open‑source contributions or similar.
• Ability to work directly with users, set priorities and stay hands‑on through delivery and support.
• Legal right to work in Australia and willingness to work on‑site in inner Sydney.
