Software Engineer – API

About the role

Join the Apical team in Sydney to design, build and maintain Nuix Platform and Business APIs as well as the REST SDK used by customers, partners and internal product teams. As a mid‑level Software Engineer you will own user stories and features from design through release, writing well‑tested code and keeping documentation up to date.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver end‑to‑end user stories and small features with high quality and minimal rework.
• Design, build and maintain secure, scalable REST APIs, including request validation, versioning and backwards compatibility.
• Implement authentication and authorisation flows such as API keys, token‑based authentication and scope‑based access control.
• Maintain up‑to‑date API documentation using OpenAPI/Swagger and developer guides.
• Write unit and integration tests, monitor CI/CD pipeline health and resolve build or test failures.
• Participate in planning, backlog grooming and technical design discussions across multiple products.

Required profile

• 3‑5 years of professional programming experience.
• Experience building and maintaining production REST APIs in a microservice architecture.
• Ability to solve complex problems daily and thrive in a fast‑paced, agile environment.
• Strong collaboration and communication skills across teams and time zones.

Required skills

• Java (primary language) with willingness to work across the stack.
• Familiarity with Python or TypeScript.
• Understanding of OAuth2/OIDC, JWT and API key concepts; experience with Keycloak is a plus.
• Experience with CI/CD tools such as Jenkins.
• Knowledge of containerisation and IaC tools: Docker, Kubernetes, Helm, Crossplane.
• Experience with API gateways like Traefik and OpenAPI/Swagger documentation.
