Software Engineer – API Development

About the role

Great Southern Bank is looking for a Software Engineer to design, build and support secure, high‑performing APIs that power our digital banking experiences. The role is based in Brisbane and offers opportunities for both junior and mid‑level engineers to grow their API capabilities.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain domain APIs using Java, Spring Boot and established API standards.
• Apply reusable API patterns to deliver consistent, scalable integration services.
• Implement automated testing and CI/CD pipelines to ensure quality and resilience.
• Deploy and support APIs on OpenShift and AWS, integrating with identity and access management solutions.
• Collaborate with architects, security and platform teams to deliver secure, observable solutions.

Required profile

• Hands‑on experience developing APIs with Java and Spring Boot.
• Understanding of API standards, integration patterns and reusable service design.
• Experience with containerised or cloud environments such as OpenShift or AWS.
• Familiarity with automated testing, CI/CD pipelines and observability practices.
• Collaborative mindset and willingness to learn and share knowledge.
