Social Worker (Grade 3) - Mental Health

About the role

The Grade 3 Social Worker provides Mental Health Social Work services at the Acute Inpatient Service of St Vincent's Mental Health, a teaching hospital in Fitzroy, Melbourne. The role is permanent and full time, and the clinician works independently while contributing strongly to the multidisciplinary mental healthcare team. It involves initiating and taking part in teaching, training, research and quality activities.

Key responsibilities

• Work under the Mental Health and Wellbeing Act 2022 to engage consumers, carers, families and supporters
• Coordinate, oversee and monitor discharge planning as part of a multidisciplinary team, providing crisis intervention for discharge plans where required
• Work within the MARAM and Information Sharing framework
• Liaise with other St Vincent's Mental Health services and external agencies to manage discharge effectively
• Liaise with community groups and agencies to develop and review community networks that improve continuity of care
• Supervise and train social students and other non-social-work staff in line with service policy, University Schools of Social Work and AASW requirements

Required profile

• Approved degree in Social Work and eligibility for AASW membership
• At least 2 years of post-qualification experience in mental health (desirable)
• Overseas qualified social workers need AASW endorsement and proof of it
• Current Victorian driving licence
• Ability to meet mandatory vaccination requirements, including a possible flu vaccine, and the Victorian government COVID-19 vaccination direction
