Social Worker - Advanced (Team Leader)

About the role

The Social Work Team Leader at Cairns Hospital contributes to the strategic, business and operational planning of the Social Work Department and is an expert on workforce planning and the productivity and sustainability of services within their allocated team. They also develop and deliver service updates, quality improvement initiatives and professional development activities. The department serves outpatients in cancer care and, by referral and clinical prioritisation, other outpatient areas, and social workers may be allocated to any hospital ward or clinical specialty, including extended hours, on-call and 7-day rostered services.

Key responsibilities

• Provide clinical leadership and demonstrate high-level management skills in monitoring and prioritising workload demands across all clinical areas of the hospital.
• Apply high-level professional judgement, strategic advocacy and decision-making to independently manage a complex caseload, adapting routine and non-routine practice to valid clinical evidence.
• Lead research, education and professional development programs and activities.
• Take part in professional development, quality improvement, clinical governance, supervision and field education activities.
