Social Volunteer - Friendship Visitor

About the role

HammondCare, an independent Christian charity that supports people to live in their homes and maintain their independence, is looking for a friendly Social Volunteer to visit a lady in Casula for one hour each week. The client enjoys watching the news, solving crossword puzzles, gardening and watching crime movies or TV mysteries, and speaks Italian, English and Spanish. She would like to share stories and experiences with a volunteer companion.

Regular visits from volunteers can help older people feel less isolated and improve their quality of life. HammondCare runs the Aged Care Volunteer Visitors Scheme, funded by the Australian Government, which promotes links between elderly people and volunteers in their local community.

Key responsibilities

• Visit the client for one hour each week, providing companionship and conversation.
• Discuss current events, compare gardening tips, help solve crossword clues or chat about favourite whodunits.
• Share stories and experiences and help the client stay socially connected.

Required profile

• Aged 18 or older.
• National Volunteer Police Check arranged and paid for by HammondCare.
• Availability for visits between 10am and 4pm on Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday; visits could be weekly depending on availability.
