Senior Water Resources Engineer

About the role

BMT is hiring a Senior Water Resources Engineer in Brisbane, Melbourne, Sydney or Northern NSW. The engineer delivers high-quality engineering and scientific services on flood and water resources projects, working independently with minimal supervision and managing small to medium projects for public and private clients. The role offers opportunities to mentor, lead projects and, depending on experience, take on people management responsibilities. Key responsibilities

• Perform professional technical work, supervise and review the work of junior engineers, and make technical recommendations
• Provide strategic technical advice to clients and share knowledge as a mentor to junior staff
• Liaise with clients, develop proposals and present them, and possibly act as Project Manager for flood-related projects
• Carry out flood studies, floodplain risk management, flood risk and impact assessments, emergency response plans and mitigation studies
• Write and review technical reports, contribute to team engagement and community consultation
• Maintain or work toward Chartered or Certified status

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in engineering or another relevant field
• 5-7 years' relevant experience after graduation
• Working toward registration with a recognised science, engineering or environmental body
• Desirable: multi-site experience, consulting experience in engineering or resources, groundwater or water quality modelling, and interest in people management or leadership

Required skills

• Developing, calibrating and simulating flood models; TUFLOW software experience required
• Technical report writing and review
• Advanced knowledge of relevant software, systems and processes
