Principal Environmental Consultant

About the role

BMT, a global consultancy in design, engineering, science and risk management in the maritime sector, is looking for a Principal Environmental Approvals Consultant. The role helps grow the business through strategic business development and promotions, acting as project manager and/or technical expert and working with a multi-disciplinary team on environmental impact assessments and regulatory approvals.

Key responsibilities

• Perform high-quality technical work with considerable independence, ingenuity and judgement
• Serve as a technical specialist in environmental approvals and environmental management
• Supervise and review the work of other environmental consultants and mentor them
• Liaise with clients, prospects and stakeholders for business development, and prepare and submit proposals and tenders
• Project manage projects within scope, time, cost and quality, including budgeting, scheduling and managing multidisciplinary teams
• Lead environmental impact and feasibility assessments, environmental management plans, environmental risk assessments and environmental planning and auditing
• Prepare and lodge environmental approval applications, liaising with regulators, local government and other stakeholders
• Author papers and social media posts, and contribute to thought leadership

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in environmental science, planning, engineering or another relevant field
• More than 15 years' experience after graduation
• Post-graduate qualifications in environmental management or a related area
• Existing client network in environmental policy, assessment and approvals
• Experience in a multi-site organisation and in the engineering or resources sector
• Demonstrated business development skills, initiative and client-focused, commercially aware attitude
• Willingness to travel across WA, interstate and internationally
