Senior Software Engineer – Critical Engineering

About the role

Optiver is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join its Critical Engineering APAC team in Sydney. You will work on the core platform that powers real‑time trading, handling massive data volumes, pricing thousands of instruments and making millions of decisions each day.

Key responsibilities

• Design, build and operate low‑latency, high‑throughput C++ services that support risk controls, reference data and trade‑lifecycle infrastructure.
• Own end‑to‑end delivery of cross‑team projects, from architectural decisions through production deployment and support.
• Partner with stakeholders across the firm to translate business problems into pragmatic technical solutions.
• Maintain code quality through reviews, automated testing and observability tooling.
• Mentor junior engineers and drive continuous improvement of legacy systems.

Required profile

• 5+ years of experience building and operating production software systems.
• Strong object‑oriented programming skills in C++ (or Java/C# with a desire to work in C++).
• Solid computer‑science fundamentals: operating systems, data structures, algorithms and networking.
• Practical Linux/Unix proficiency and familiarity with a scripting language such as Python.
• Experience with the full software development lifecycle and shipping reliable, real‑time services.
