Senior Software Engineer (C#/.NET Backend)

About the role

Carsales is hiring a Senior Software Engineer in its Core Services team in Melbourne. Core Services owns and evolves the backend platforms and services that connect the Consumer and Dealer segments, covering listing and inventory flows, payments, data exchange and platform integrations. The role is mostly backend (about 95%) and involves strong collaboration across engineering teams, product areas and business domains.

Key responsibilities

• Plan, build and support software using modern agile practices, automating wherever possible
• Drive the technical implementation of complex projects and own the whole lifecycle: writing and shipping to production, running and acting as first responder when things break
• Work with product managers to shape requirements and find the real business value
• Take part in code review, testing, source control and build processes
• Mentor and coach a team of engineers, keeping standards and best practices high
• In the first 6 to 12 months: evolve listing and inventory flows, strengthen supporting services in production, and improve the resilience of data exchange services

Required profile

• Strong C#/.NET back-end engineering
• Experience shipping to the cloud and operating it, ideally on AWS
• End-to-end ownership across the software development lifecycle
• Adaptable fast learner with a varied background
• Solid SQL and data storage skills across relational and non-relational databases (e.g. Postgres, DynamoDB)
• Nice to have: web technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript/TypeScript) and a front-end framework such as React, Angular, Vue or Svelte; machine learning or AI experience; event-driven systems with queues (RabbitMQ, SNS+SQS, PubSub)
