Senior Release Train Engineer (Agile)

About the role

A federal government client, delivering frontline services, is seeking a Senior Release Train Engineer (EL1/EL2 level) to work in an agile environment. The role coordinates with stakeholders, escalates blockages and champions improvement, with considerable independence and work under the general guidance of senior staff. It is advertised as a labour hire position with an estimated start date of 1 January 2027.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and support the team, set priorities, manage resources and workflow, and lead staff on performance, attendance and wellbeing
• Coach, mentor and plan for succession to build capability, engagement and retention
• Monitor output and quality against standards, define and improve release management processes and manage the technical release process
• Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, ensure approvals before moving to production, and meet deliverables on time and within budget
• Identify and monitor risks, develop mitigation strategies and escalate issues
• Influence ICT strategy, contribute to costing, and report on business outcomes, KPIs and quality assurance
• Share knowledge as subject matter expert, attend interagency meetings, resolve complex issues and act in line with the APS Values and Code of Conduct

Required profile

• Must be an Australian citizen able to obtain a Baseline security clearance
• Level 5 (SFIA) measurement, organisational capability development, facilitation and specialist advice; Level 4 methods and tools
• Ability to quickly understand frameworks, legislation, privacy, ethics, WHS and security protocols, and relevant business systems
• Prior government or large-scale organisation experience preferred
• Candidates must submit a one-page pitch covering all criteria

Work conditions

• Contract of 12 months, with extension terms up to 24 months
• Hybrid: onsite for the first 6 weeks, then flexible hybrid if the worker lives within reasonable travel distance
• Work locations in Queensland, ACT or Victoria
