Senior Project Manager

About the role

Ward Civil & Environmental Engineering is seeking an experienced Senior Project Manager to lead civil construction projects in Sydney. You will be responsible for delivering projects from planning through to close‑out while upholding the company’s safety, quality and collaborative culture.

Key responsibilities

• Lead end‑to‑end project delivery, from planning and scheduling to close‑out.
• Develop and manage detailed project schedules and procurement plans.
• Coordinate resources, materials, plant and labour to meet milestones.
• Ensure compliance with WHS, environmental and quality standards.
• Implement and monitor site safety and environmental management plans.
• Oversee contract administration, scope management and subcontractor relationships.
• Manage financial forecasting, budgeting and cost control.
• Produce regular project reports and maintain client liaison.
• Lead, mentor and review performance of project teams.
• Chair internal and external meetings to ensure alignment and progress.
• Resolve subcontractor disputes and manage supplier relationships.
• Maintain QA documentation and ensure timely submission.
• Monitor project risks and implement mitigation strategies.
• Drive continuous improvement and uphold Ward’s values and standards.

Required profile

• 5+ years’ experience as a Senior Project Manager or Project Manager in civil construction, preferably in Sydney.
• Degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
• Valid driver’s licence.
• Strong communication and commercial skills.
• Collaborative, team‑oriented approach with ability to engage clients and consultants.
• Proven people‑management capabilities.
• Proactive, self‑driven mindset with confidence to lead independently.
