Senior Project Engineer - Civil Infrastructure

About the role

A Brisbane-based civil contractor is recruiting a Senior Project Engineer for its road, earthworks and structures projects. The role is site-based, not head office or remote, and involves working across regional Queensland and New South Wales on rosters typically 5/2 or 10/4. It sits between the Project Manager and the engineers, taking ownership of key parts of delivery.

Key responsibilities

• Own programme, cost, quality and subcontractors, making sure what is planned gets built
• Manage variations, track costs, deal with subcontractors and solve issues before they slow the job
• Work closely with the Superintendent and Supervisors to keep production moving, and support the Project Manager on commercial and programme outcomes
• Mentor Project Engineers, Site Engineers and graduates on how the job really works
• Deal with issues proactively rather than escalating everything upward

Required profile

• Civil Engineering degree
• At least 5 years of site-based experience on roads, earthworks, structures or public infrastructure projects
• Experience running sections of work, not just assisting
• Ability to manage programme, cost and subcontractors
• Comfortable dealing with Supervisors, Superintendents and clients
• Thorough understanding of contracts, variations and commercial risk
• Willingness to be site-based and move with the work across QLD and NSW

Nice to have

• Background in TMR and/or RMS projects
• Strong working knowledge of P6
• Interest in progressing into a Project Manager role
