Senior Medical Officer (Rural Generalist / Provisional Fellow)

About the role

We are seeking a Senior Medical Officer to join Biloela Hospital in the Callide Valley. Working closely with the Banana Midwifery Group Practice, you will support a midwifery‑led, level‑2 maternity service while delivering comprehensive rural generalist care across inpatient, outpatient and emergency settings.

Key responsibilities

• Provide primary and secondary medical services to the community, including trauma and emergency care.
• Offer clinical governance and specialist support to the Banana Midwifery Group Practice to maintain a safe maternity service.
• Mentor and supervise doctors‑in‑training, medical students, midwives and nursing staff.
• Lead quality and safety initiatives such as clinical audits, case reviews and risk management.
• Participate in out‑of‑hours and weekend emergency rosters.
• Collaborate with other Central Queensland Health sites using outreach and digital health platforms.

Required profile

• MBBS (or equivalent) with current registration on the Medical Board of Australia.
• Fellowship of ACRRM or RACGP, or active enrolment in a fellowship program, with advanced obstetrics skills (e.g., DRANZCOG Advanced).
• Current ALS and PALS certifications.
• Proven competence in rural hospital practice, trauma management and emergency medicine.
• Ability to work autonomously and provide leadership within a multidisciplinary team.

Required skills

• Advanced Life Support (ALS) certification.
• Paediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification.
• Use of Telehealth and digital health platforms.
