Senior Mechanical R&D Engineer

About the role

Syenta, a semiconductor manufacturing company developing its own Localised Electrochemical Manufacturing (LEM) platform, is looking for a Senior Mechanical R&D Engineer to lead the end-to-end mechanical design of its custom manufacturing machines. The role covers the full machine design lifecycle, from concept through detailed design, prototyping, validation and production-ready equipment, and works closely with controls, mechatronics and software engineers.

Key responsibilities

• Lead end-to-end mechanical design of manufacturing equipment, from concept to production release
• Develop and maintain CAD models, engineering drawings and BOMs
• Select materials, components and vendors, and manage procurement for mechanical subsystems
• Apply DFM and DFA principles, and carry out tolerance analysis, FEA and other engineering analyses
• Support prototyping, commissioning and continuous improvement of equipment
• Contribute to design reviews, documentation and mechanical engineering standards
• Work with mechatronics, controls and software teams on integrated machine solutions
• Establish mechanical design standards, best practices and workflows, and maintain high-quality documentation

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
• Proven R&D background with a track record of turning concepts into working hardware
• Fluent in GD&T tolerancing (ASME Y14.5 and/or ISO GPS)
• Preferred: clean-room material selection, micro-fluidics, metrology frames, vibration isolation, simulation tools, PLM/JIRA/Confluence, and startup experience

Required skills

• Proficiency in 3D CAD (platform agnostic; OnShape experience advantageous)
• Engineering drawings to ISO 2768
• Pneumatics design and high-precision linear and angular motion system design
• DFM/DFA and rapid prototyping experience
