Senior Mechanical R&D Engineer

About the role

We are looking for a Senior Mechanical R&D Engineer to join the research and development team of an Adelaide‑based aerospace and defence company. The role focuses on turning early‑stage concepts into working hardware, with a strong emphasis on hands‑on prototyping and rapid iteration.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the earliest phase of product development, from idea generation through to functional prototype.
• Design, build, test, break and refine mechanical solutions in a workshop environment.
• Work autonomously to identify problems worth solving and drive them to completion.
• Collaborate with a small, fast‑moving engineering team to integrate prototypes onto the platform.

Required profile

• Proven experience in concept and early‑stage mechanical design.
• Demonstrated hands‑on prototyping and fabrication ability.
• Strong proficiency with SOLIDWORKS.
• Self‑starting attitude with the ability to thrive in ambiguous situations.
• Australian citizenship (required).
