Senior Mechanical Engineer – Mining Infrastructure

About the role

KCB is seeking a highly experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead the design, analysis, and delivery of mechanical systems for tailings storage facilities, slurry pipelines, and mine infrastructure projects across Western Australia.

Key responsibilities

• Lead mechanical design for tailings pipelines, pump stations, and slurry transfer systems.
• Perform hydraulic calculations, stress analysis, and support planning for process piping.
• Design and review pressure vessels, storage tanks, and custom spool configurations.
• Complete steady‑state pipeline hydraulic design using Excel or software such as AFT Fathom and Bentley Hammer.
• Conduct surge analysis with Bentley Hammer or AFT Impulse and design pipeline peripherals (thrust, thermal expansion, valve stations, service crossings).

Required profile

• Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical) with NER / CPEng / RPEQ certification.
• 10–15 years of mechanical engineering experience, preferably in mining and tailings infrastructure.
• Background in slurry pipeline design or strong interest in developing this expertise.
• Experience preparing CAPEX and OPEX estimates.

Required skills

• Excel, Microsoft Project, Word, PowerPoint.
• AutoCAD.
• AFT Fathom, AFT Impulse, Bentley Hammer.
• Hydraulic modelling, stress analysis, CFD modelling for wear prediction.
• Pressure vessel and storage tank design.
• Familiarity with slurry pump systems (e.g., Warman) and interstage piping.
