Senior Mechanical Design Engineer - Building Services

About the role

Morson Edge is recruiting a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer for a leading multidisciplinary engineering consultancy in Sydney. The consultancy works on major projects such as data centres, airports, stadiums, metro stations and defence projects. The role suits an experienced intermediate engineer ready for more responsibility, or an established senior engineer who wants to stay technically focused rather than move into management.

Key responsibilities

• Mechanical building services and HVAC design across major multidisciplinary projects
• Develop mechanical calculations, equipment selections, specifications and technical documentation
• Design and coordinate HVAC systems, including air-conditioning, ventilation and chilled-water systems
• Work closely with electrical, structural, architectural and other engineering disciplines
• Resolve technical design challenges and coordinate mechanical services with other disciplines
• Support projects through concept, detailed design, documentation and construction
• Take ownership of mechanical design packages with support from experienced engineers

Required profile

• Background in mechanical building services design within an engineering consultancy
• Experience on larger, technically complex projects, ideally in a Tier 1 or major multidisciplinary consultancy
• Mechanical engineering qualification
• Australian permanent residency, citizenship or unrestricted working rights without sponsorship
• Data centre experience is highly regarded but not essential; engineers from infrastructure, healthcare, transport or defence are encouraged to apply

Required skills

• Strong hands-on HVAC design capability, including mechanical calculations, system selection and design documentation
• Experience with central plant, chilled-water systems or complex HVAC installations is advantageous
• Sound understanding of Australian building codes and mechanical services standards
• Ability to coordinate with other engineering disciplines and work independently

What we offer

• Salary of $120,000-$155,000 plus superannuation, depending on experience and technical capability
