Senior Maritime Warfare Instructor

About the role

Serco is seeking experienced former Royal Navy Navigators and Principal Warfare Officers to join a shore‑based instructional team at HMAS Watson, Sydney. You will use your operational expertise to train future Royal Australian Navy Surface Warfare Officers in advanced navigation and maritime warfare.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver advanced navigation and maritime warfare instruction in classroom and bridge simulation environments.
• Mentor and assess junior warfare officers throughout their training programmes.
• Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of Navy courseware and training capability.
• Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of Navy tactics, techniques and procedures.
• Collaborate with Navy and Serco stakeholders to ensure high training standards and participate in rostered training activities as required.

Required profile

• Recent operational experience as a Principal Warfare Officer or Navigating Officer on a frigate, destroyer or equivalent Commonwealth vessel (approximately 12 months within the last five years).
• Completion of the Principal Warfare Officer Course, Surface Combatant Navigation Course or equivalent qualification.
• Strong communication and mentoring abilities.
• Eligibility to obtain and maintain an NV1 Defence Security Clearance.
• Instructional experience is welcomed but not essential; Certificate IV in Training and Assessment will be supported.
