Senior Manager – Sustainability & Net Zero

About the role

Bluefin Resources is recruiting, on behalf of the High Speed Rail Authority (HSRA), a Senior Manager – Sustainability & Net Zero to support the Development Phase of the Sydney-Newcastle High Speed Rail project. Reporting to the General Manager, Environment & Sustainability, you will act as a senior sustainability subject matter expert, working with project delivery teams, technical advisers, designers and major construction consortiums. The role is based in North Sydney, NSW, on a hybrid basis.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the implementation of sustainability and net zero initiatives across the Development Phase.
• Manage and coordinate sustainability inputs, deliverables and technical advice from external consultants, design teams and Early Contractor Involvement participants.
• Provide technical oversight and assurance for Infrastructure Sustainability Council (ISC/ISCA) ratings and 5-Star Green Star requirements.
• Review sustainability assessments, technical reports and design documentation against project sustainability objectives.
• Drive carbon reduction initiatives, including embodied carbon, resource efficiency, sustainable procurement and circular economy principles.
• Integrate sustainability requirements into project design, procurement documentation and future construction contracts.
• Support climate risk assessments, adaptation and resilience initiatives.
• Advise senior executives and stakeholders, and build relationships with engineering consultants, contractors and delivery partners.
• Monitor sustainability performance, reporting and assurance throughout the Development Phase.

Required profile

• Approximately 10+ years of relevant experience, with demonstrated maturity and leadership.
• Background in major transport infrastructure delivery, ideally rail, metro, road or tunnelling.
• Experience delivering sustainability outcomes on major transport infrastructure or complex construction programs.
• Ability to manage external consultants, engineering advisers and contractor deliverables.
• Sound understanding of construction methodologies, design processes and project delivery.
• Experience in carbon management, decarbonisation, embodied carbon and sustainable infrastructure.
• Excellent stakeholder engagement, communication and influencing skills, and confidence presenting to senior leadership.
• Strong project management skills, able to work independently in a multidisciplinary environment.
• Relevant qualification in Sustainability, Environmental Science, Engineering or a related discipline, or equivalent professional experience.
• Australian citizenship required; national police check required before commencement.

Required skills

• Knowledge of ISC/ISCA infrastructure sustainability ratings and Green Star.
• Carbon management and embodied carbon.

• Competitive hourly rate, negotiable based on experience and approved budget, plus superannuation.
• Hybrid arrangement, approximately three days per week in the office, subject to agreement.
• Engagement as a contract/labour hire position, with employment arrangements to be confirmed.
• Preferred start in December 2026, with flexibility for suitable candidates with notice periods.
