Senior Legal Counsel - Banking

About the role

Bendigo Bank's Group Legal division advises its business units, senior leaders and executives on a broad range of legal issues. It is looking for an accomplished Senior Legal Counsel to join the team full time, reporting to the Head of Group Legal. The role is based in Melbourne, Adelaide or Bendigo.

Key responsibilities

• Partner closely with the business as a trusted legal advisor on strategic initiatives in a fast-paced, regulated environment
• Support major projects and transactions, such as regulatory changes and responses to identified risk exposures
• Deliver top-tier legal advice and drive pragmatic, commercial solutions while proactively managing risk

Required profile

• A legal qualification and admission to practice in Australia
• Demonstrated previous experience in a similar role within the banking and financial services sector, either in private practice or in-house
• Relationship skills to build trust with senior executives and business partners

Required skills

• Excellent written and verbal communication
• Technical analytical and problem-solving skills
• Ability to interpret and explain complex legislation and to plan and implement policy and risk management strategies in light of legislative and regulatory change
• Demonstrated experience in Financial Services Regulation (compliance and/or enforcement)
