Senior Lawyer - Energy and Decarbonisation

About the role

HopgoodGanim, an independent Australian law firm, is hiring a Senior Lawyer for its Perth-based Resources & Energy team. The lawyer advises on complex energy transition matters, including decarbonisation initiatives, renewable energy developments, industry regulation and emerging technologies, working closely with a partner and a collaborative team serving Australian and international clients.

Key responsibilities

• Draft and negotiate key project and commercial documents and manage matters day-to-day under supervision
• Consider regulatory aspects of the work
• Support the team across a diverse pipeline, including:
• Decarbonisation and new technology projects for major Australian companies
• Renewable energy projects such as grid-connected solar and battery energy storage systems, and remote hybrid systems for mining
• New technology trials and demonstrations, including international collaboration on battery minerals and hydrogen
• Projects involving Traditional Owner groups, such as renewable energy for data centres and green hydrogen and ammonia initiatives
• Regulatory advice and assessment of evolving industry frameworks
• Broader mining and oil and gas matters, including due diligence, contracting and project support

Required profile

• Experienced Senior Lawyer with 5 to 8+ years of post-qualification experience
• Experience in a projects or commercial team at an Australian or international law firm; energy transition or broader energy exposure is advantageous
• Some experience providing regulatory advice and/or working in regulated markets
• Collaborative, team-oriented mindset with a commitment to mentoring junior lawyers
• Ability to build trusted client relationships through clear communication and responsiveness
