Senior Full Stack Software Engineer

About the role

Flywire is seeking a Senior Full Stack Software Engineer to join its Australian team working on billing and payments products that move hundreds of millions of dollars daily. The role blends deep technical expertise with the ability to translate diverse client requirements into secure, scalable solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain high‑quality, testable code for the billing and payments system, making autonomous architectural decisions aligned with product goals.
• Leverage AI tools to analyse codebases, answer architectural questions, and accelerate understanding of complex system interdependencies.
• Ensure security, quality, scalability and performance are never compromised.
• Use diagnostic tools to resolve issues quickly and calmly.
• Engage with stakeholders, including client meetings, to gather requirements and troubleshoot complex problems.

Required profile

• Self‑reliant, proactive engineer who knows when to seek guidance with well‑formed questions.
• Adaptable learner able to navigate ambiguous, high‑level product goals and turn them into actionable designs.
• Strong communicator comfortable collaborating across time zones and diverse teams.
• 10+ years of professional application development experience, preferably in FinTech or higher‑education sectors.

• Java (professional experience required)
• Relational databases – MySQL
• Object‑oriented concepts
• Spring Core, Spring MVC, Hibernate (nice to have)
• Front‑end: HTML, CSS, JavaScript, JSP
• AI‑assisted development tools and comprehensive test case writing
