Senior Financial Accountant

About the role

As a member of the Finance team at Sydney Airport, you will own complex accounting areas, especially those linked to treasury activities, while supporting broader financial reporting across the business. Reporting to the Finance Manager, you will ensure month‑end and statutory reporting are accurate, complete and delivered on time.

Key responsibilities

• Lead month‑end close for assigned portfolios, preparing and posting complex journals and performing detailed balance‑sheet reconciliations.
• Prepare technical financial‑statement notes and supporting schedules for quarterly, half‑year and year‑end reporting.
• Liaise with internal stakeholders and external auditors to coordinate deliverables, resolve queries and provide documentation.
• Research and apply Australian accounting standards, staying current with developments.
• Review junior team members’ work, offering technical guidance, coaching and constructive feedback.
• Identify and implement process, control and reporting efficiencies, leveraging automation and AI‑enabled tools.

Required profile

• 5+ years of experience in financial accounting or external audit, with hands‑on journal, reconciliation and reporting experience.
• CA or CPA qualified (essential) and strong knowledge of Australian accounting standards.
• Experience with treasury accounting or financial instruments such as debt, derivatives or hedge accounting is highly advantageous.
• Analytical, detail‑oriented and able to work independently while meeting tight reporting deadlines.
• Effective communication and stakeholder‑management skills.
