Senior Engineer, Automation/Mechatronics – Research & Technology

About the role

Join ResMed's Moulding Research & Technology team to lead the exploration, development, and maturation of emerging automation and mechatronics technologies for future manufacturing applications. You will translate manufacturing challenges and product needs into prototypes and demonstrators, working across mechanical systems, robotics, controls, sensing, machine vision, and software.

Key responsibilities

• Identify and evaluate emerging automation, robotics, sensing, machine‑vision and mechatronics technologies.
• Design and build proof‑of‑concept systems, conduct structured experiments and make recommendations on technology direction.
• Develop integrated mechatronic solutions, including fixtures, material‑handling concepts, motion systems and data‑acquisition platforms.
• Progress promising technologies from laboratory concepts to production‑relevant demonstrations and support transfer to NPI teams.
• Collaborate with product development, tooling, manufacturing, quality and external partners to ensure scalability, safety and business value.

Required profile

• Curious problem‑solver comfortable with incomplete information and iterative experimentation.
• Strong hands‑on engineering skills with systems thinking across mechanical, electrical, software and control domains.
• Effective communicator able to convey technical concepts, risks and recommendations to diverse stakeholders.

Required skills

• SolidWorks, Creo, Siemens NX or equivalent CAD tools.
• PLC programming (Allen Bradley/Rockwell), HMI development.
• Industrial robotics platforms (Fanuc or similar) and motion‑control systems.
• Machine‑vision, industrial cameras, sensors, force control and advanced inspection technologies.
• Rapid prototyping, additive manufacturing, simulation and digital engineering tools.
• Data acquisition, sensing integration and basic AI/ML concepts for manufacturing.
