Senior Ecologist

About the role

AECOM’s environmental practice is seeking a Senior Ecologist to lead ecological impact assessments, offsets and mitigation strategies across a range of projects in Queensland. You will work both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team, providing expert advice to clients and ensuring high‑quality technical reporting.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct ecological surveys, analyse results and develop impact assessments and mitigation plans.
• Lead project delivery, mentor junior staff and support internal clients with ecological requirements in tenders and projects.
• Identify efficiencies and digital solutions to improve workflow and collaboration.
• Assist with project management, including technical and financial performance of ecological projects.

Required profile

• 6+ years of technical knowledge of flora, fauna and ecological communities in Queensland (experience in NSW or NT a plus).
• Proven ability to lead project delivery, engage clients and mentor a high‑performing team.
• Experience with environmental approval processes and impact assessment reporting.
• Bachelor’s degree in Ecology, Environmental Science, Natural Resource Management or related field.

Required skills

• Proficiency with GIS tools such as ESRI ArcGIS Pro (advantageous).
• Willingness to undertake fieldwork across Queensland, with a valid Class C driver’s licence and 4WD experience.
