Senior Director, Internal Audit - Customer

About the role

Optus is looking for a Senior Director, Internal Audit to lead risk-based assurance across a major Optus business portfolio. You will partner with executives and senior leaders to give independent insight on governance, risk management and internal controls, shape audit strategy, identify emerging and systemic risks and align assurance to business priorities, customer outcomes, regulatory obligations and transformation initiatives.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and deliver the Internal Audit strategy and annual audit plan for an assigned portfolio, keeping assurance coverage aligned to strategic objectives and emerging risks.
• Build trusted relationships with executives and leadership teams, providing independent insight, constructive challenge and assurance on governance, risk management and internal controls.
• Lead complex audit and advisory engagements, ensuring they are evidence-based and deliver business, customer and risk outcomes.
• Identify and assess emerging, systemic and cross-functional risks, turning them into practical audit priorities and assurance responses.
• Lead, coach and develop audit teams, driving quality, stakeholder engagement, professional judgement and continuous improvement.

Required profile

• Extensive senior leadership experience in Internal Audit, Risk, Assurance, External Audit, Technology Risk or related fields in large, complex and highly regulated organisations.
• Proven ability to build risk-based assurance strategies, influence executives and provide independent challenge.
• Strong strategic thinking, linking business strategy, customer outcomes and operational risks to assurance priorities.
• Exceptional communication skills, able to explain complex technical, operational and regulatory issues to Executive and Board audiences.
• A Big 4 experience in Internal Audit, Risk Advisory, Technology Risk, Cyber Security, Governance, Assurance or Consulting leadership roles is highly regarded.
