Senior Diesel Mechanic

About the role

Hitachi Construction Machinery (Australia) is seeking an experienced Senior Diesel Mechanic to join its Launceston Workshop team. Reporting to the Service Manager, you will be a key technical expert covering diagnostics, repairs and maintenance of Hitachi earthmoving equipment, while mentoring others and contributing to a close-knit team. The role suits a skilled mechanic wanting to take the next step in their career while staying hands-on with a leading OEM.

Key responsibilities

• Perform new machine assembly and pre-delivery inspections
• Carry out diagnostics, maintenance, repairs and fault finding on a range of Hitachi earthmoving equipment
• Provide technical guidance and support to a small team of workshop technicians
• Assist the Service Manager with coordinating workflow and prioritising jobs
• Maintain accurate service records and documentation
• Liaise with internal stakeholders so customer expectations and deadlines are met
• Support apprentices and junior technicians through mentoring and knowledge sharing
• Identify opportunities for continuous improvement across workshop operations
• Champion a safety-first culture and complete work safely, efficiently and to a high standard

Required profile

• Trade qualification in Diesel Mechanics, Mobile Plant Technology, Heavy Vehicle Mechanics or similar
• Strong experience maintaining and repairing earthmoving, construction or mining equipment
• Previous experience mentoring, coaching or supporting technicians
• Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
• Commitment to safety, quality and customer service; able to work independently and in a team
