Senior Development Manager – Major Gifts

About the role

The Westmead Institute for Medical Research is seeking a Senior Development Manager to lead its major‑gifts fundraising programme. Reporting to the Director of Development & Engagement, you will be responsible for securing high‑value philanthropic support that advances world‑class medical research.

Key responsibilities

• Identify, cultivate, solicit and steward a pipeline of major donors, including individuals, families, trusts, foundations and corporate partners.
• Collaborate with researchers, clinicians and senior leadership to create compelling, donor‑centred cases for support aligned with WIMR’s strategic priorities.
• Prepare high‑quality proposals, reports and communications that translate complex scientific work into clear narratives.
• Enable senior stakeholders to engage confidently with donors and contribute to overall fundraising strategy and performance insights.
• Monitor and report on pipeline progress, ensuring targets are met and relationships are sustained.

Required profile

• Proven experience in major‑gift fundraising within a research, health or nonprofit environment.
• Strong ability to build and maintain long‑term relationships with high‑net‑worth donors.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a talent for storytelling.
• Strategic mindset and capacity to work collaboratively across senior leadership, board members and scientific teams.
