Senior Data Engineer - Snowflake

About the role

Versent partners with leading Australian organisations to solve complex data challenges, modernise legacy platforms and unlock the potential of AI. It is looking for a Senior Data Engineer who builds high-performance data platforms and AI solutions in a consulting environment, working with Snowflake, Databricks, AWS and Azure. The role is based in Australia with full working rights required.

Key responsibilities

• Build and optimise modern data platforms using Snowflake or Databricks
• Develop batch and real-time data pipelines for analytics, reporting, AI and operational use cases
• Create AI-powered data products using Snowflake Cortex, semantic search and RAG
• Design scalable, secure and reliable data architectures across AWS and Azure
• Implement data quality, observability and governance frameworks
• Work with client stakeholders to shape requirements and solve complex business challenges
• Apply AI-assisted engineering approaches such as GitHub Copilot and emerging agentic workflows
• Drive performance, scalability and cost optimisation across cloud data environments
• Contribute to technical design, estimation and delivery planning across consulting engagements

Required profile

• 5+ years of experience in data engineering or closely related software engineering roles
• Strong hands-on experience with Snowflake in production environments
• Experience building ETL/ELT pipelines and orchestration workflows
• Experience working directly with customers, stakeholders and engineering teams
• Excellent communication and problem-solving skills

Required skills

• Snowflake and Databricks, with modern lakehouse architectures
• Advanced SQL and strong Python or PySpark capability
• AWS and/or Azure cloud platform experience
• Infrastructure as Code with Terraform
• Tools such as Airflow, dbt, Kafka or similar
• Data modelling, governance and security practices
• Bonus: Snowflake Cortex, RAG, Databricks Mosaic AI, vector search, data observability and lineage tooling, FinOps, and certifications such as SnowPro Core, Databricks Data Engineer Professional, AWS Solutions Architect Associate, Azure Data Engineer Associate, HashiCorp Terraform Associate or dbt Analytics Engineer
