Senior Cyber Security Officer

About the role

The Rural Fire Service (RFS) is looking for a Senior Cyber Security Officer to join its ICT team. The role provides specialist technical advice and leads hands-on initiatives to protect NSW RFS information, systems and services, strengthening security controls, investigating and responding to cyber threats and embedding security into technology decisions. It is a full-time position with a 35-hour week, based in Sydney Olympic Park with flexible or hybrid arrangements considered.

Key responsibilities

• Protect the confidentiality, integrity and availability of RFS information, systems and services
• Lead complex cyber security initiatives and provide trusted technical advice
• Undertake hands-on implementation and operational support to strengthen cyber resilience
• Work with the Chief Information Security Officer, ICT teams, project teams and business stakeholders
• Investigate cyber threats, assess vulnerabilities and turn technical findings into practical recommendations
• Mentor colleagues to build cyber security capability across the organisation

Required profile

• Advanced Diploma or degree in Cyber Security, Information Technology or a related discipline, or equivalent expertise
• Industry-recognised cyber security certification(s), or the ability to obtain them
• Current driver's licence and willingness to travel
• Appreciation of the needs of a volunteer-based emergency service organisation

Required skills

• Experience implementing enterprise cyber security services across identity, endpoint, network, cloud, application and data protection
• Security monitoring, vulnerability management and cyber incident response
• Cyber security investigations, threat analysis, digital forensics and post-incident reviews
• Understanding of the NSW Cyber Security Policy, Essential Eight, ISO 27001 and the NIST Cyber Security Framework
• Developing security standards, procedures and technical guidance
