Senior Communications Adviser (ASO6 Equivalent)

About the role

A South Australian Government department focused on regional growth, sustainability and community resilience is recruiting a Senior Communications Adviser (ASO6 equivalent) to work in its central Communications branch. The role supports a high-profile, state-wide strategic support initiative, turning complex policy and relief measures into clear, accessible messaging for communities, local businesses and regional partners.

Key responsibilities

• Plan, develop and execute high-impact communications across regional and metropolitan communities
• Translate complex government policy and support measures into plain-language messaging
• Work with senior leaders, emergency response personnel and partner agencies to coordinate multi-agency communications and identify proactive media opportunities
• Draft ministerial briefings, communications plans, briefing packs and public content
• Monitor emerging issues and give tactful advice on sensitive matters

Required profile

• Proven experience in a communications advisory role within government or a complex, multi-stakeholder organisation
• Exceptional writing, editing and content creation skills
• Strong political judgement and diplomacy when handling sensitive, high-profile issues
• Ability to build relationships across government agencies, local organisations, media and community networks
• Organised under pressure, able to meet strict deadlines and adapt to change
• Current Australian working rights; willingness to undergo a criminal history check and emergency management training
• Tertiary qualification in Communications, Journalism or a related discipline is highly regarded
