Senior Commercial Officer

About the role

The Senior Commercial Officer will support BAE Systems' Surface Ships line of business on the Hunter Class Frigate Program. Working within the Commercial Function, you will help deliver optimal commercial outcomes for the Australian Defence Forces and the business.

Key responsibilities

• Manage end‑to‑end contract activities, including negotiating changes, handling customer correspondence and claims.
• Provide specialist commercial advice to Project Managers and wider business teams.
• Build and maintain internal and external stakeholder relationships.
• Support all Contract and Bid Status Reviews.
• Draft moderately complex contracts and agreements with minimal supervision.
• Ensure financial and commercial exposures are mitigated through appropriate frameworks such as export controls, finance, product safety, insurance and intellectual property rights.

Required profile

• Relevant experience as a Senior Commercial Officer or in a comparable commercial role.
• Strong written and oral communication skills across all stakeholder levels.
• Relevant tertiary qualifications.
• Ability to work independently or as part of a team with minimal supervision.
• Australian citizenship and eligibility for Defence security clearance.

Required skills

• Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
• Familiarity with SharePoint (desirable).
• Familiarity with Oracle (desirable).
