Senior Building Designer / Senior Architectural Drafter

About the role

A niche multi-disciplinary consulting firm with offices in Sydney and Newcastle is looking for a Senior Building Designer / Senior Architectural Drafter. The firm mainly designs residential buildings, including dwellings and medium-density construction, and much of the work concerns existing buildings damaged by fire, tree or vehicle impact. The role includes lodging applications to council portals and preparing permit documentation.

Key responsibilities

• Lodge DA applications on the council portal and manage the DA process
• Prepare Statements of Environmental Significance and Waste Management Plans
• Coordinate with subconsultants such as heritage, bushfire, stormwater, structural, civil, surveyors and arborists
• Produce detailed drawings for waterproofing, flashing, detailing and sections, and detailed sections and window details
• Carry out site inspections and take onsite measurements of existing buildings
• Visualise architectural plans and prepare preliminary outlines of structural elements to help designers

Required profile

• Relevant certificates achieved or nearly completed, with at least 5 years of relevant experience
• Extensive practical experience in the NSW home building industry, including knowledge of the BCA
• Autonomous work style, with potential to grow into senior or lead roles
• Highly organised, able to work independently and meet strict deadlines; can start as soon as possible
• Fluent spoken and written English

Required skills

• 2D AutoCAD (versions 2009 to 2014), paper and model space, maintaining drafting standards
• Word, Excel, Outlook and Adobe
