Senior Android Engineer

About the role

The ABC is looking for a Senior Android Engineer to join its Digital Product team and help shape the mobile applications Australians use to access ABC content. Working under the broad direction of the Mobile Lead, you will combine advanced Android development skills with technical leadership across major product features, help define the long-term technical roadmap and guide design and delivery.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the development, maintenance and support of ABC Android applications, delivering high-quality features and reusable components across mobile products.
• Help define the long-term technical roadmap and contribute to product planning, solution design and engineering strategy with colleagues across Digital Product.
• Coordinate major feature delivery, managing dependencies, timeframes and expectations while keeping technical and non-technical stakeholders informed.
• Identify, triage and resolve complex production issues, improving performance, security, accessibility and reliability.
• Provide technical leadership, guidance and mentoring to other engineers, and help evolve engineering standards and development practices.
• Maintain clear technical and project documentation.

Required profile

• Relevant tertiary qualifications or equivalent significant skills, knowledge and experience.
• Significant experience developing complex, scalable, secure, accessible and high-performing applications across mobile platforms and devices.
• Demonstrated technical leadership, with experience guiding and mentoring engineering teams.
• Strong communication, collaboration, planning and organisational skills, including coordinating multi-person delivery and managing dependencies.

Required skills

• Highly advanced Android development skills, ideally shown through public-facing applications written in Kotlin, with deep knowledge of modern frameworks and tools.
• Extensive automated testing experience, including unit, integration and end-to-end testing.
• Mobile release experience, including CI/CD, automation pipelines, production monitoring and post-release stakeholder engagement.
