Senior Analyst – Manager Research

About the role

Morningstar is seeking a Senior Analyst to join its Manager Research team in Sydney. The role focuses on researching fund managers across Australian and global markets, conducting due diligence, and producing insightful research reports and thought‑leadership pieces for clients in Australia and the Asia‑Pac region.

Key responsibilities

• Research and critically assess fund managers and their products, primarily in Australia with some global exposure.
• Lead fund manager interviews and write concise, reader‑friendly rating notes and research reports.
• Make fund recommendations for advice research clients, internal asset‑management clients, and external model‑portfolio providers.
• Collaborate with internal stakeholders to align recommendations with Morningstar’s house views and ensure data and methodology support.
• Help shape Morningstar methodologies and handle ad‑hoc client enquiries.

Required profile

• At least 10 years of investment‑related experience, strong background in fund manager due diligence, security selection or investment management.
• Deep knowledge of Australian investment managers and expertise across equities or fixed‑interest asset classes; multi‑asset and unlisted asset experience is a plus.
• Strong quantitative skills, good grasp of statistics, and familiarity with economics and behavioral finance.
• Excellent verbal and written communication, time‑management, and ability to work independently.
• Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degrees, certifications and CFA designation highly valued.

Required skills

• Proficiency with PC and mainstream software packages.
• Experience with Morningstar Direct (advantageous).
• CFA designation (highly valued).
