Senior Ambulatory/Stud Veterinarian

About the role

Scone Equine Group is looking for a Senior Ambulatory/Stud Veterinarian on a seasonal or potentially permanent basis. The role covers independent veterinary care on client properties with thoroughbred broodmare groups and supports artificial reproduction services at Scone Equine Hospital, which is Australia's largest equine veterinary practice.

Key responsibilities

• Provide independent veterinary care on client properties with thoroughbred broodmare groups
• Support and take part in artificial reproduction services, including fresh, chilled and frozen semen insemination, stallion training and semen collection, chilled semen shipping, fertility investigations, embryo transfer and semen analysis
• Work within a team of ambulatory vets serving the Denman, Scone and Murrurundi region of the Upper Hunter Valley
• Share the after-hours roster, aiming for 1 in 4 during the season and sales season, with backup and second opinions from experienced and specialist veterinarians
• Flexible days are part of the sales season arrangement for permanent positions

Required profile

• Veterinary degree or equivalent qualification fully registered in New South Wales; limited registration applicants may apply
• At least 5 years' relevant experience since graduation
• Wide experience in equine practice, routine stud medicine and reproductive management of stallions and mares
• Thoroughbred stud work experience is necessary; specialist qualifications are an advantage but not required

What we offer

• Salary of $130,000 - $180,000 AUD per year depending on experience
• 4-day working week from February to August for permanent staff
• After-hours allowances and a fully equipped car with fuel card for on-farm work
• Fully furnished accommodation assistance, $50 per month phone allowance, CPD support and annual allowance
• Computer tablet, uniforms and membership of the EVA and AVA organisations
