Senior Accountant (Financial Operations)

About the role

A well-regarded Financial Services organisation in Melbourne is looking for a Senior Accountant on a 6-month contract, starting as soon as possible. Reporting into Financial Control, the role combines core financial accounting and finance operations work with the chance to support a significant business initiative. You will work closely with senior finance stakeholders to maintain the integrity of financial information, support reporting, drive operational improvements and help with financial analysis and information requests.

Key responsibilities

• Contribute to the month-end, half-year and year-end close processes.
• Prepare and review balance sheet reconciliations and supporting schedules.
• Ensure compliance with relevant accounting standards and corporate governance requirements.
• Support oversight of accounts payable, accounts receivable, invoicing, payments and corporate card activities.
• Source, validate and reconcile financial information from ERP and other systems.
• Support the preparation of financial analysis, reporting packs and data submissions for internal and external stakeholders.
• Assist with responding to financial information requests linked to business projects and strategic initiatives.
• Reconcile and validate data against previously reported figures to ensure accuracy and consistency.

Required profile

• CA/CPA qualified.
• Proven experience preparing reconciliations, investigating variances and working with complex financial information.
• Confident communicator able to engage with finance and non-finance stakeholders.
• Proactive, resilient and solutions-focused, willing to get into the detail.

Required skills

• Strong understanding of Australian Accounting Standards and corporate accounting practices.
• Advanced Excel skills, including analysing and manipulating large datasets.
