Secondary Design Engineer - Transmission & Electrification

About the role

WSP's Energy business Transmission & Electrification team is looking for a Secondary Design Engineer to provide electrical engineering expertise on major projects and mentor the next generation of engineers. The role can be based anywhere in Australia, with teams in NSW, VIC, QLD and SA, and accepts applications from experienced engineers through to Senior Engineers.

Key responsibilities

• Design and review secondary systems and protection schemes for transmission and distribution projects
• Prepare technical documentation such as design reports, equipment specs, cable schedules and interface documents
• Apply knowledge of primary substation elements, transmission lines, underground cables and earthing design
• Support high-voltage scopes for Owner's Engineer and Technical Due Diligence projects
• Lead or support design projects and coordinate across disciplines (Primary, SCADA, Power Systems, Structural, Drafting)
• Undertake short-term site visits as needed

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering
• 2-10 years' experience delivering transmission and distribution projects, ideally in consultancy
• Strong background in secondary design (protection, control, AC/DC systems, SCADA)
• Knowledge of EHV/HV electrical engineering from concept to detailed design
• Good client-facing and communication skills, and skilled in technical reporting

Required skills

• IEC61850 implementation (highly desirable)
• RPEQ/RPEV qualification or ability to attain it
