Rural General Practitioner – Stawell, Victoria

About the role

The Rural General Practitioner will join Grampians Health in Stawell, providing broad‑scope medical care to a vibrant regional community. Working within the Stawell Urgent Care Centre and Simpson Ward, the role blends acute, chronic, aged and palliative care in a supportive hospital and community setting.

Key responsibilities

• Provide on‑site medical cover at the Urgent Care Centre from 10:00 to 18:00.
• Be on call from 18:00 to 08:00 for adult and paediatric ATS category 1‑3 patients not meeting VVED criteria.
• Conduct medical reviews on the Simpson Ward during the week and lead structured ward rounds on weekends, remunerated according to EBA penalty rates.
• Collaborate with junior medical staff and multidisciplinary teams across emergency, surgical, and specialty services.
• Offer clinical services at the Stawell Medical Centre on non‑Urgent Care rostered days, including women’s health and sexual/reproductive health.

Required profile

• Medical degree with full registration as a General Practitioner in Australia.
• Experience in rural or regional emergency and acute care settings.
• Ability to manage a diverse case mix, including paediatric and adult emergencies.
• Willingness to work on‑call hours and participate in weekend ward rounds.

Required skills

• Proficiency in acute medical assessment and resuscitation.
• Familiarity with ATS triage categories and Victorian Virtual Emergency Department protocols.
• Competence in multidisciplinary teamwork and communication.
