Resident Field Service Technician - Mining Engines (Alice Springs)

About the role

Cummins is looking for a Field Service Technician to work out of Alice Springs, Northern Territory, in a permanent, embedded role. You will provide breakdown and scheduled maintenance to local clients, specialising in engine maintenance and repairs for mining applications. Reporting to the Darwin Branch Manager, you will be the sole employee on location and work autonomously within a broader regional and virtual team.

Key responsibilities

• Engage customers courteously and professionally, anticipating and responding promptly to their needs
• Use specialised tools and follow documented procedures to diagnose and complete less complex repairs, including identifying and preparing parts and tools
• Coach customer employees on preventative maintenance and basic repairs
• Escalate unresolved issues to more experienced on-site technicians or supervisors
• Complete service worksheets, timesheets, warranty claims and quality documents by hand or through business systems
• Complete training in line with skill and business requirements
• Maintain a clean work area and tools, and comply with Health, Safety and Environmental policies, reporting incidents to site management

Required profile

• Apprentice-trained engine technician (Certificate III or equivalent)
• Significant workshop or field service experience
• Expert knowledge of power generation and/or engine products
• Heavy vehicle or mobile plant qualification
• Cummins experience highly preferred; power generation (mechanical) experience desirable but not required
• Remote field service work experience highly preferred
• Locally valid driving permit

Required skills

• Diagnostics and troubleshooting of engines and power generators
• Basic electrical knowledge and use of electronic service tools
• Service documentation and technical escalation
