Research Fellow - Ultrafast Modulation of Reconfigurable Metaphotonics

About the role

Monash University's School of Physics and Astronomy is recruiting a Research Fellow for a two-year fixed-term appointment on the Clayton campus. The fellow contributes to research in reconfigurable metasurfaces and ultrafast photonics, developing a reconfigurable metasurface platform using phase-change materials and investigating its temporal modulation with an ultrafast pump-probe optical system. The work explores laser-induced phase transitions in low-loss phase-change materials and ultrafast carrier-driven modulation in semiconductor platforms.

Required profile

• A doctoral qualification (PhD) in a relevant discipline or a closely related field.
• Research experience relevant to reconfigurable metasurfaces, phase-change materials or ultrafast photonics.

What we offer

• Remuneration of $86,195 - $116,981 per annum, Level A, plus 17% employer superannuation.
• Access to research facilities, infrastructure and collaborative networks within one of Australia's leading physics schools.
• Flexible and hybrid working arrangements.

To apply, candidates must submit a resume of no more than 2 pages and a response to the key selection criteria; interviews are held with strong applicants. Applications close on Monday 23 November 2026.
