Reporter - Perth South of the River

About the role

Gazette, a media company building a network of local newsrooms across Australia, is launching its first Western Australian title covering Perth south of the river. The role reports to the Editorial Director and joins a team of 10 reporters across nine mastheads. The coverage area includes South Perth, Victoria Park, Belmont, Fremantle, East Fremantle, Melville, Cockburn, Kwinana, Rockingham, Canning, Gosnells, Armadale and Serpentine-Jarrahdale.

Key responsibilities

• Find and report local news, lifestyle and culture stories, from everyday community issues to public interest work on climate and energy, cost of living, housing, infrastructure, education, healthcare and essential services.
• Produce content across formats: short explainers, newsletters, social posts and vertical video.
• Spend time in the community building relationships with locals, businesses, community groups and decision makers.
• Help shape the editorial voice of a young masthead and try new formats and ideas.
• Work with editorial and audience teams to grow reach.

Required profile

• A driver's licence, as driving across the patch is required to report stories.
• Ongoing right to work full time in Australia; the employer cannot sponsor visas.
• Willingness to work across newsletters, social media and video, including scripting, being on camera and editing your own material.
